Greek Yogurt Salad Dressing

|

It’s officially salad season here on the Homestead! We can’t get enough greens from the garden. However, we can definitely do without those store bought salad dressings! Making your own takes seconds and costs pennies! It’s also much more delicious and you control the ingredients. We’re having salad for lunch today, so, let me show you how to make my Greek yogurt salad dressing!

Having a good salad dressing is imperative to a good salad. You can have all the toppings, the freshest greens, and the highest quality meat, but, if you don’t have a good dressing, it just won’t be as good as it could be.

I started making our Greek yogurt in the instant pot a few years ago. I end up making about a gallon a week! We love it for breakfast or just a healthy snack. But, there are many uses for yogurt. You can add it to smoothies, baked goods, and salad dressings!

If you do not make your own yogurt, just use a high quality one from the store. Make sure it is unflavored or plain yogurt. We will add all the yummy flavors ourselves.

But, if you are adventurous in the kitchen, like I am, here is the blog post on how to make it at home https://therosehomestead.com/homemade-yogurt-using-dry-milk/

You can start making it from just 1/4 cup of store bought yogurt, and, continue to make it for as long as you want!

Yogurt is such a great ingredient to have on hand. You can make it sweet for breakfast or savory like this dressing. I make it a point to keep a large amount on hand!

As far as the flavorings, it’s up to you! That’s the beauty of making your own. I prefer Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. But, feel free to experiment. You can add fresh dill, oregano, and fresh garlic for a delicious dressing!

The base for the dressing will be the same, but, the flavors can change depending on what you are in the mood for that day.

You could even add a splash of hot sauce if you like!

For a Greek dressing, add finely chopped cucumber and fresh dill, YUM!

Don’t think a Greek yogurt dressing is just for salad! Try drizzling this on grilled chicken breast or a grilled steak. There are a myriad of uses for a good dressing!

I guess you could call the variation I make creamy Italian. But, you can definitely make this a ranch dressing with a few tweaks!

Let’s get started on this easy and delicious homemade Greek yogurt dressing!

In a small mixing bowl, add 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup of milk (may use whole milk, low fat milk, or non dairy milk) and whisk together until creamy and smooth.

In a small bowl, combine the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and black pepper.

Mix well and add to the dressing. Combine together until evenly distributed.

Add 1-2 tablespoons of dressing to your salad, or, to your taste.

Try drizzling this on pasta for an Italian pasta salad!

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.

I hope you will give this a try!
