I remember growing up and having big dinners with family from time to time and one of my favorite dishes was deviled eggs.

Classic deviled eggs, while delicious, are even better with a bit of spice. The secret ingredient in the best deviled eggs are jalapenos!

This is such a great recipe to take to a pot luck meal or for your holiday gatherings.

Why I love this recipe

This is a simple recipe using easy to find ingredients.

I love recipes that use our farm fresh eggs as they add a ton of good protein to our meals.

Having a meal without meat and want to add some protein? Definitely make deviled eggs!

What you will need for the Perfect Deviled Eggs

Hard-Boiled Eggs

My favorite way to make hard boiled eggs is using the instant pot. It is by far the best way to make easy to peel eggs.

If you have farm fresh eggs, I recommend using older eggs as they are easier to peel. The egg shells come off so much easier if they are at least a week old.

Jalapenos

I use pickled jalapenos, however you can use fresh if you prefer.

Mayonnaise

It’s super easy to make and has only a few ingredients instead of the vast list in the store bought variety.

If you are using a store bought mayo, try to find one with few ingredients and preferably made with olive oil or avocado oil.

Salt

Black Pepper

Mustard

Use either yellow mustard or dijon mustard. For an even spicier kick, use a spicy mustard.

Paprika (for topping)

Step-by-step instructions for making The Best Deviled Egg Recipe

Boil the eggs

There are different ways to make boiled eggs.

My preferred method is to place the eggs on a trivet in the instant pot with 1 cup of water.

Put lid on and set to seal.

Hit pressure cook for 6 minutes and let the pressure release.

Place eggs in an ice bath for at least 5 minutes before peeling.

Alternatively, you can heat water and eggs in a pot over high heat.

Cooking time depends on if you want a soft boiled egg or hard boiled egg. I boil mine for 12 minutes for best results.

Make the egg yolk mixture

After peeling the eggs, cut them in half with a sharp knife.

Remove the yolks and add to a mixing bowl. You can use a small spoon to gently encourage them to pop out of the halved egg whites.

Set the white halves aside.

Mash the egg yolks and mix in the rest of the ingredients except the paprika.

Mash all together to a smooth mixture.

Fill the Halves

You can either fill the halves using a spoonful of the mixture.

Another method is using a piping bag to pipe the deviled egg mixture into the halves more evenly.

Place deviled eggs on a serving platter and sprinkle with paprika.

Variations

Add 2-3 dashes of hot sauce for an even spicier kick.

Top with green onions and fresh herbs for a spring version of the deviled egg.

Instead of jalapenos, add sweet pickle relish to the mix for a sweet and salty deviled egg.

Storage Tips

Cover the platter with plastic wrap or move eggs to an airtight container and store in the fridge for 3-4 days.
