I don’t know about you, but real maple syrup has gotten so expensive. Finding a frugal alternative that is still made with simple ingredients is a challenge I decided to take on. Now I am making my own syrup weekly!

Many varieties of store-bought syrup have high fructose corn syrup so making this simple syrup with high quality ingredients is a much better option. This is a good substitute for the real stuff at your local grocery store.

What you will need for this easy homemade pancake syrup
Sugar
Since this recipe only has 3 ingredients, it’s very important to use high quality ingredients. I prefer to use a raw cane sugar
You can use white sugar if that is what you have on hand, as well.
Water
For best results, use filtered water.
Maple Extract
This is the ingredient that makes this syrup over the top. Using a high quality maple flavoring
You can use other extracts as well for different flavors of this syrup.

Step by Step Instructions for making Homemade Pancake Syrup
In a small saucepan, add 1 cup water and 1 cup of sugar.
Heat over medium heat until it comes to a rolling boil.
Turn the heat down to low and continue to simmer for 10-15 minutes or until it is reduced to 1 cup of syrup. Cooking time may vary. Check after 10 minutes and keep an eye on it until it’s the right consistency.
Add the maple extract and stir.
Allow to cool completely and add to an airtight container.
I believe if you will give this a try, you will not be spending so much on pure maple syrup anymore! It really is that good!

Storage tip
Store leftover syrup in the fridge for 3-4 months.
Serving Suggestions
Serve over pancakes, French toast, or in your coffee.
Pour warm syrup over vanilla ice cream for a decadent treat!

Homemade Pancake Syrup
An easy recipe for homemade pancake syrup that is absolutely delicious!
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp maple syrup
Instructions
- Add the sugar and water to a medium sized pot.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat and reduce heat to low.
- Continue simmering for 10-15 minutes or until reduced to 1 cup of syrup.
- Add in the maple flavoring and stir.
- Allow to cool completely before storing.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 months.

where does the tsp of maple syrup get added?
You can add the maple extract at the beginning or after the syrup has cooked until it starts to thicken.
