Air Fried Potato Chips

Who doesn’t love potato chips? I know I do! Unfortunately, most of the chips you buy at the store are full of seed oils and unhealthy fats. These air fried potato chips are easy to make in an air fryer and much healthier than the store-bought option!

When we have sandwiches, I often pop up some popcorn as a salty side. But, sometimes I just crave some chips!

Recently, I decided to try my hand at making air fried chips and, let me tell you, they were a huge hit!

These chips are crisp and flavorful. You won’t be missing the big bags from the store if you make these!

One thing I love about homemade potato chips is the freedom to add as much or as little salt and seasoning as you want.

So many times, store bought potato chips can be too salty or not have enough seasoning. These are so customizable and much healthier!

This recipe is quick and easy to make! With an air fryer the potato chips fry in minutes.

The seasoning is totally customizable to your taste and preference.

You choose the oil that you want to use.

For this recipe you will need:

  1. 1 medium russet potato.
  2. Salt.
  3. Olive oil or Avocado oil.
  4. Seasonings of your choice.
  5. Air Fryer.

Step by Step instructions for making air fried potato chips:

  1. Preheat Air Fryer to 390 degrees F.
  2. Wash and dry your potato and slice as thinly and even as possible.
  3. Place a handful of the sliced potatoes in a small bowl and spray with olive oil or avocado oil.
  4. Add salt and seasonings of your choice.
  5. Toss the potatoes to coat them evenly. I find it is important to do small batches at a time for best results.
  6. Place the chips in air fryer basket in a single layer.
  7. Let air fry for 2-3 minutes at time and check them. They will get crisp and brown quickly!
  8. Once they begin to brown, turn them with tongs and continue to fry for a couple of minutes and check again for brownness.
  9. Repeat the process until all potatoes are air fried.

We found these potato chips to be incredibly crisp and delicious! They are perfect along side a sandwich.

Quick tip:

Make large batches and allow them to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.

Can I use other types of potatoes?

Yes, you can use whatever you have on hand. I find that russets fry up the most crisp!

Can I use any oil I prefer?

Yes, use any oil you desire. You only need a spritz or 2 to make these chips.

How long will these last on the counter?

I find that they will last for up to 3 days before they start to soften.

Air Fried Potato Chips

Yield: 4 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

Light, crisp, and delicious, these homemade air fried potato chips will be a hit with your family!

Ingredients

  • 1 medium russet potato
  • 1-2 tsp salt
  • 1-2 tsp seasoning of your choice
  • 1-2 spritzes of oil of your choice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees F.
  2. Wash and dry your potato.
  3. Slice as thinly and evenly as possible.
  4. Place small batches of the potatoes in a small bowl.
  5. Spritz with oil and sprinkle with seasonings.
  6. Mix thoroughly to make sure every potato is covered in seasonings.
  7. Place in air fryer basket in one single layer.
  8. Air fry for 2-3 minutes at a time checking for browning.
  9. Once the potatoes are starting to brown around the edges, flip with a pair of tongs and continue to fry 2-3 minutes at time until the other side has started to brown.
  10. Cool your chips on a cooling rack, uncovered.
  11. Continue making batches with above process until all are made.
  12. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

Notes

Chips will store for up to 3 days before starting to soften.

You can use any potato you have on hand, however, I have found russets crisp up the best!
