Equipment

  • 1 Dutch Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3 cups unbleached all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Add water to a large mixing bowl. Temperature of the water should be around 105-110 degrees F.
  • Add the yeast and stir. Cover, and let the yeast bloom for 5-10 minutes. You will know the yeast is active when it bubbles up in the water.
  • Add the flour and salt. Mix well.
  • Cover and allow to rise in a warm place for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. The dough should double in size.
  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F with dutch oven inside.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape into a ball.
  • Place on parchment paper and slash top with a razor blade or very sharp knife.
  • Place into the dutch oven. Put lid on and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Remove lid and continue to bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the loaf is deep golden brown.
  • Place bread on a cooling rack and allow to cool completely before slicing.
