Homemade Granola

Occasionally, we splurge and buy store bought cereal in the summer because it’s so refreshing. After buying a box or 2, I always start making our own granola to use as cereal. This homemade granola is just as good as store bought and a lot healthier!

Even though is seems convenient to grab a box of granola at the store, you may be picking up more than you bargain for. Store bought cereals are often packed full of sugar and other not so healthy ingredients.

Making granola at home means you can add whatever you like in your granola or cereal. We like raisins and either walnuts or pecans. From start to finish, it takes around 30 minutes to make, so, make a large batch and store it in a mason jar.

You will need: A mixing bowl, wooden spoon, baking sheet, parchment paper or silicone baking mat, measuring spoon, and measuring cup.

Ingredients: Old fashioned oats, salt, sugar, oil (olive or avocado), honey, pecans or walnuts, and raisins.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Add 2 cups oats, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/4 cup of sugar to a mixing bowl and combine. Once mixed well, add 1/2 cups oil and 1/4 cup of honey. Stir until mixed well and add the nuts. I use 1 cup of chopped nuts. Put the mixture on the baking sheet making sure to spread it out as evenly as possible.

Place in preheated oven and stir every 10 minutes. Let bake until just starting to brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely until it is crisp. Add the raisins.

Serve over yogurt or add milk and have it as a bowl of cereal!

Granola

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Old Fashioned Oats
  • 1 cup Chopped nuts (any kind you prefer)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Oil (olive or avocado)
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Honey

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400 Degrees F
  • Mix all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
  • Spread evenly on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for around 20 minutes, stirring every 5-10 minutes.
  • Once the edges are brown, it's ready to take out of the oven.
  • Allow to cool completely. It will crisp up once cooled.
  • Optionally, you can add some raisins after it has been cooled.
  • Store in an airtight container.
  • Serve over yogurt, with milk, or just as a healthy snack!
